Program Overview

The Export Controls Australia Group (ECAG) is offering a fully sponsored professional development program designed to elevate early- to mid-career practitioners (2.5–7 years' experience) working in export controls, sanctions, and related fields across industry, academia, and government.

The Global Export Controls Program (GECP) will feature leading Australian and international experts who will be brought together to share their knowledge and experience. Participants will benefit from expert-led seminars, practical workshops, collaborative activities, and networking opportunities designed to build practical capabilities aligned with Australia's national interests, including AUKUS-related collaboration.

As GECP 2027 is a fully funded program, eligibility requirements are strictly applied.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

• Be an Australian citizen;

• Have between 2.5 and 7 years of hands-on experience or demonstrated knowledge in export controls;

• Be able to fully participate in all mandatory program requirements, including workshops, group activities, preparation work, and engagement between workshops.

Mandatory workshops will be held in:

• Late February 2027

• Mid-May 2027

• Late August 2027

• Mid-November 2027

Applicants who do not meet all eligibility requirements may not be considered.

Required Documents

Applicants must submit the following documents as part of their GECP 2027 application:

1. Curriculum Vitae (CV) / Resume

A current CV or resume (maximum two pages).

2. Completed Application Form

A completed GECP 2027 application form, including responses to all required questions.

3. Employer Support Letter

Written confirmation from your employer supporting your participation in GECP 2027, including attendance at all mandatory workshops and involvement in all required program activities.

4. Consent for Public Release

Agreement that, if selected, your name, organisation, and participation in GECP 2027 may be publicly announced by ECAG. This may include publication through the ECAG website, LinkedIn, media releases, program materials, and other communications relating to the program.

The following questions form a significant component of the GECP 2027 selection process.

The Global Export Controls Program seeks individuals who demonstrate the ability to:

• Contribute meaningfully to a high-performing professional cohort.

GECP is not designed as a passive professional development opportunity. The program seeks applicants who demonstrate leadership potential and the capacity to contribute to the future of export controls, trade compliance, national security, technology protection, research security, policy, law, defence industry, academia, and related fields.

Applicants are encouraged to provide thoughtful, specific, and reflective responses. Strong applications will demonstrate:

• Independent thinking;

• Professional maturity;

• Curiosity and sound judgement;

• Self-awareness; and

• A willingness to engage with complexity.

Generic responses are unlikely to be competitive.

Employee Support Letter

Applicants must provide a letter of support from their employer.

The letter should confirm:

• Support for attendance at all mandatory in-person workshops;

• Support for participation in program activities between workshops, including group research, preparation, meetings, and other engagement requirements;

• Understanding of the program's significant time commitment across the year;

• Acknowledgement that, if selected, the applicant's name, organisation, and participation may be publicly announced by ECAG through its website, LinkedIn, media releases, program materials, and other related communications;

• Understanding that continued participation is subject to ongoing engagement, professional conduct, and completion of program requirements.

Where possible, the letter should:

• Be provided on organisational letterhead; and

• Be signed by the applicant's manager, supervisor, HR representative, senior executive, or another authorised representative.

Additional Information

Applicants may be shortlisted and invited to participate in an interview as part of the selection process.

Application outcomes are expected to be communicated in October or November 2026.

Due to the anticipated volume of applications and the structured nature of the assessment process, ECAG may have limited capacity to respond to individual enquiries beyond the information provided in the application materials.

Applicants may be shortlisted and invited to participate in an interview as part of the selection process.

Application outcomes are expected to be released in October or November.
